5 signs you need a professional organiser at home
So you think you're pretty organised, huh? Awesome - I adore meeting others who love the art of organising, whether they are professionals or simply privately pursuing the perfect pantry set-up. There are a tonne of us out there - I recently exhibited at the North Shore Home and Garden Show, and I spoke to more visitors that LOVED organising, than I spoke to people who needed my help. They were obvious - some walked faster, some avoided making eye contact, and a couple even looked me dead in the eye and then ran past laughing. It was hilarious. So if decluttering and organising fills you with dread, how do you know you need some professional help?
1. Um.... decluttering and organising fills you with dread!
If you look around your desk, or your social calendar, or your home, you will see there are things you are putting off. It might be calling that difficult customer to address their complaint; or contacting that friend who always sucks your energy and leaves you exhausted; or that cupboard under the stairs that you are too afraid to open. The reason you procrastinate on these tasks is because you find them unpleasant or difficult. If you have a cupboard under the stairs, a pantry, or a whole kitchen that needs some serious attention, take the first step and get in touch with The Ship Shape Shoppe. I'll take care of the rest!
2. You're simply too busy
Like almost everyone, you're juggling three thousand things right now and there just isn't time - let alone energy - to take care of the apocalyptic laundry room. But you have a sneaking suspicion that the lost socks may be uniting and starting a small army, and that the ironing board has eloped with the peg basket as it's been years since anyone saw the iron. I get it - the juggle is oh-so-real and I'd love to take something off your to-do list so you can free up the headspace to focus on matters more important than love-sick ironing boards.
3. You don't know where to start
Your tupperware is in a tangle and your pantry is the pits. Your wardrobe is a wormhole and your kitchen is a calamity. Your bathroom is bedlam and your garage is gruesome. Everywhere you turn is clutter and mess - and it is paralysing. You know you need to do something, and you want to do something - you just don't know which something to start with. As an expert, I've seen it all - literally nothing in your home can shock me. I absolutely love helping clients triage their cluttered homes and deal with the most important spaces first.
4. You don't want to send stuff to landfill
Awesome! You and I are on the same page. So many clients I meet have let their clutter build up because they feel items are too good to be thrown out (and they are right!) but don't know what else to do with them. When working with clients, I remove everything they no longer want from their homes when I leave (why I do this is a whole separate article). I assure you I don't exit via the rubbish dump - in fact I sort through everything and make sure that anything that is in good working order is donated to have a second chance at life with another family.
5. You'd rather be... [insert your favourite pastime here!]
Believe you me, I love a good wine/wind down as much as anyone - so I can absolutely relate to you wanting to be anywhere BUT at the coalface of decluttering your home. This is why some of my services can be delivered while you are at work, having a massage, catching a movie or playing with your kids. By the time I come and help you out, we'll be firm friends and you will trust me to be in the agreed areas of your home - and I work hell-for-leather so there is no time for snooping. You simply give me a brief of what you want to keep/discard, and I handle the rest while you go and do what you gotta do.
Voila! Those are my 5 signs you need an organiser at home. Are you in the "I ❤️ organising" club, or the "I 😡 organising" support group? If you know someone that could use a little support in the home organisation stakes, share this article with them and send them my way - I'd love to hear from them.
